Lights not working after a power outage?

The power came back, but the lights, keypads or app didn't. It's one of the most common calls we get after a storm. Here's what usually causes it, and how we fix it.

Root cause first

When the power comes back, the system doesn't always come back with it.

The usual causes are a C-Bus or Dynalite network power supply that failed during the outage, units that lost their settings, a safety switch that tripped and hasn't been reset, a Savant host or network switch that didn't restart properly, or surge damage to a device.

Before you call, check your switchboard for a tripped safety switch and try restarting your internet router. If that doesn't bring it back, we'll find the cause and restore the programming.

How a service visit works

Three steps, no surprises.

  1. Check the basicsLook for a tripped safety switch in the switchboard, then restart your router. Call us if the system still isn't working.
  2. Diagnose on siteWe test power supplies, the control network and each affected device, and read back the programming.
  3. Restore and protectWe repair or replace what failed, restore the programming and back it up. Our PowerSafe add-on tests your safety switches every year so you know they'll work.
Questions

Common questions

Why do my lights work from the switchboard but not the keypads?

The lighting circuits have power, but the control network that tells them what to do doesn't. Usually a failed network power supply or units that lost their settings.

Will a care plan help after an outage?

Yes. Every care plan includes outage checks, so we confirm your systems came back online after a storm.

What is PowerSafe?

An add-on to any care plan: a yearly safety visit that tests your safety switches and records the results, so you know your switchboard will protect you.

Can a surge damage my smart home?

Yes. Surges can damage power supplies, units and network equipment. We can recommend surge protection at the switchboard.

Do you come out after storms?

Yes, during business hours, Monday to Friday 7am to 3pm. Care plan clients are first in the queue.
